Pull Mane or Cut?
My TB has a really long mane. its not real thick. I have never pulled a mane before and with his termperment, I am not sure he would tolerate it? Any suggestions on how to cut it without making it look like a straight line and real un natural?
When my Dad was showing, he would never pull a horse's mane unless it was just too thick to lay smooth without it. What he would do is use one of those thinning razors that you can buy at just about any beauty supply store and he would thin it at the ends with that.
ETA: Holy wow, sorry about the huge picture!
I have a horse like that. I cut his mane and then hold the scissors vertically and snip the ends to add texture and make a more natural look as opposed to a straight-line cut.
Thanks! I will have to try the thinning thingy!! :)
i dont agree on pulling a horses mane. some people reakon it doesnt hurt, but i think i wouldnt like it. What i do is braid my horses main, as if for a show but only go down as far as you would before you rolled them up making sure that all the braids are as close to even as you can get. then cut under the band I use a finger width to keep things even. gives the mane a natural look. at first may look weird, but after a few days it grows out nicely.:D
I've never pulled a mane. When I had to cut my paint's due to another horse thinking the sorrel part was tasty, I first cut it even holding it straight up then flipped it to the opposite side and cut it even again. When flipped back to the normal side it looks pulled
Flip it over and cut.
Pulling a mane takes forever.. it hurts your fingers, and cutting it without flipping it over looks kind of blocky.
I haven't tried smrobs' dad's method but it sounds much better than pulling!
Haha ive butchered my TB's mane with scissors O.O DONT USE SCISSORS!
So flip it to the opposite side of the neck that it normally lays on?
First cut it straight up then flip to the other side and cut it again
