Taking Care of Scratches/Tears on a Saddle
So, the scenario goes there's this nice Rossi y Caruso general purpose saddle that's kept inside underneath covers to stay nice and clean before getting transferred to it's new home in the new barn. Now say there's this cat that absolutely hates me and will do anything in her power to make me unhappy.
You can see where this is going right? Her plan is to rip the cover of the saddle off while I'm gone and proceed to use the saddle seat as a bed/scratching post.
So anyway, I know it's likely not completely repairable, but does anyone know a nice remedy for at least getting it in somewhat decent looking condition? The saddle won't ever be sold, so that's not the issue, I just don't want it to look like... Well... Like a cat tore it up. ._.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, I'll see if my mom can get pictures of the damage, it's her useless cat that ruined it in the first place, since the stupid thing can't just be too fat and lazy to get in trouble like my cat. To add insult to injury the cat was a birthday present to my mom from me.

Cat scratches are the worst :(

Because they're usually right through the skin side the only thing you can do is dap on some leather dye, which the 'flesh' part of the hide should absorb, then rub over with a bone folder (ideally) or a smooth plastic screwdriver handle which'll help lay down the scratch edges. Then oil/soap over. After a bit of use and further soaping the scratches ought to blend in.
