Is this normal?
I wasn't sure where to post this question sorry if this is the wrong place.
My gelding does this really weird thing when he eats he lifts his front leg up and holds it there while he's eating I've never seen a horse do this before its a little funny he doesn't paw the ground or anything he just holds it up, he'll only put it down when he's done eating or you give him a little push or you take the food away but as soon as he goes back to eating he holds it right back up again. Is there a reason why he is doing this? Or is it just a weird habit he has? Has anyone ever seen a horse do this before?
Sorry its so blurry and there bad pics but this is him doing it and you can see what I mean by seeing them.
Yes, I've seen many, many horses do this, sorry I haven't got a reason for you, but it's normal behaviour.
erod tatses better when a leg is held up.
Perfectly normal & prefectly cute.:-)
Yeah it's reasonably normal.
I'm likely to be completely wrong here, but I've only noticed it in particularly tall breeds/horses, generally with Thoroughbred in them. They usually have long legs (in comparision to their necks) so maybe it's sort of like a counterweight, as they have to bend down more, and often stretch out their leg? I know horses do it with raised feed too - but perhaps it's a learned food association? I have no idea - it's kinda funny though.
Yes, T eats her grain like that. Normal, hey what's normal? Special, absolutely! :-P
I was told by a old man when I was little that it was a sign of overly happy eater they have to do something they are so happy about eating. Its nothing medically linked, usually its also done with horses who tend to bulk their food as well. ( piggies ) no affence.
TRR, that's my girl T! A happy eater!
When we stop in a nice grassy area for a few moments, she will do this also, almost as though she is asking for permission to lower her head to snatch a few bites. Of course, most times permission is granted.
Haha how funny, my TB does this to but she just kind of kicks her leg out a few times, always does it!
very nice horse
