dont laugh please???? -sonny farts on me everyday-big ones-every single time i pick up his back feet he lets one fly-i swear he is grinning-for about 10 minutes into the ride he is passing gas- i have tried walking him around for a while before doing his feet-nope-i have never been around an animal that does this so much. All the horses at the barn are on the same feed-this time of year mostly grass-they get hay in the early morning, none of them do this like Sonny does- Is there anything to be done? vet says his health is great.
Some horses are just gassier than others.
Sometimes worm load can contribute or tummy upset, or diet can contribute..lots of good fiber tends to lend itself to more gas, but as long as it's moving through, it's not unhealthy.
Truely, most gassy horses are just fine and look at it this way, you know as long as there's exhaust fumes..his fuel line isn't clogged up. Horses don't have the same social connection with body functions, so I'm sure he's not being rude intentionally, Seems when you are grooming by the time you are back there they are just a tad more relaxed, plus, you notice more when you are in the line of fire than you would up by his head.
now that is funny-thanks-its moving to say the least
Personally, I think mine saves them for me :P
Constantly when I'm picking his back feet or brushing out his tail... *sigh*
lol I just had to laugh at this post! My sister's pony does this allll the time and VERY loudly. Its rather embarassing for her because people kinda joke around and insinuate that it was my sister hehe
LOL! Ah, I've never been with a horse who had a lot of gas...but I know that it would be embarrassing @ shows.
There is this 1 horse, named Ace at my barn- every time he's going to a jump he starts farting.
Yeah, something about picking up those back feet gets them going. My Cody is good at the silent-but-deadlies! He also is a major burper! I don't notice the other horses belching, but Cody sure does!
We were riding next to someone's pasture and all their horses came running up to the fence to see us. We stopped and they were all checking each other out when one of the horses in the pasture let out a huge fart that even scared it! All the horses spooked and jumped opposite directions! Geez!!!!! You never know what's gonna spook your horse when you go out on the trail......
If your vet isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. Buster does this every time I lift his hind leg. Just relaxing to him, I guess.
Now I know another horse on our farm that does have much more serious gas problems due to his feed. He has to have a special, pelleted feed. If he eats hay, his gas is terribly explosive. You can hear it all the way across the farm and it goes on constantly. It must be very painful for him. This is no laughing matter, of course, so he stays on his special feed most of the year.
thank you guys- no= if it hurts him it isnt funny at all.
i am too old to be posting questions like this and laughing about it but sonny -just the way he does it is like he means to get me! Got my buddy Al a good one yesterday-Al didnt belive me and as i walked sonny past him yup-he 'sploded. i cracked up= but always in the back of my mind i am wondering even with the vet saying he is fine.
maybe sonny is smarter than i am :)
In the 24 yrs that i have owned Cocoa, I cant remember a single time where she hasnt farted on me in a day.
Toby has a gassy rump. He can clear a round pen of humans when he lets one loose!!!!
