Archery?

Anyone here into archery?

azwantapaint 04-25-2012 01:51 AM

Yep. I am. So is my girlfriend.
I compete in target and 3D, and bowhunt.
Honey is learning quick and hopes to compete late summer.
I also work for a major manufacturer of archery products, so i get to play with all the neat toys before they get released for sale.

Me! My family hunts and we are taught early how to handle firearms and such.. I like hunting with my bow more than I do a rifle now..I got a new bow in August, I'm not fantastic with it yet, but I can definitely keep up with the boys..I just can't out shoot my dad yet..

Wow! That's a really nice bow, Drum. Archery is making a comeback, thanks to Hunger Games it seems.

I have a bow I want to make and one that I am trying to buy. I prefer traditional/re-curve but mostly because I keep dislocating my pull shoulder. Hoping to have one before July so I have something to do when I'm not on horse back...lol

Never seen it or ready any of the books. It is also still one of the elective in twelve private schools I visited for possible attendance 13 years ago when we came back to the states.

Thanks, archery is definitely something fun to get into.

Drum, I'm jealous. Haha.

I really, really want to use a longbow. I don't really like compound bows. Just too many bells and whistles.

And yes, I've read the hunger games. I've been itching to get a bow for a long time, and now that I've read the books, I want to start it even more. Drives me nuts being a poor teenager.

Very nice Drum! Ive been into archery for years and i no offense but kinda hate compound bows. To much there, and i am better with a recuve and ive always shot one just as well as a compound. I like the simplicity of a recuve with out all the fancy stuff a compound has. And The Hunger Games makes me love my bow even more and that i do archery!!!

Reading what Drum said, my family is big into hunting and really into firearms mainly but my uncle loves archery too and hes seen me shoot lots with a bow and gun and with both thing hes a great shot let me say but he was really amazed at my accuracy with both a bow and rifle. Especially the bow, archery isnt easy and takes lots of practice to be very good shot. I can get very tight groups with a 45lb draw weight recuve bow at say 25 - 30 yards. Thats not easy. And, and, ive done all the hunting classes, bow and rifle and was taught how to hunt and use a gun, my aunt and uncle are crazy about that stuff being firearm safety instructors.

Thanks Okie, it's a Diamond Razor Edge..I LOVE the Matthew's Jewel line too..

VT, I'm not offended at all.. I haven't had many chances to shoot a recurve..My compound is just better suited for what I do. I'm open for shooting anything though. Hunting is a huge thing around here, my family owns 5000 acres that we trophy manage. Between the "No women, no children" rules we have we are able to manage the wildlife better and have a bigger harvest of the big bucks. We don't shoot any does until the season is almost over and only then for meat. We don't shoot any bucks unless they score 130 or more, their rack has to be outside of the ears.. There are also a ton of archery shoots and competitions around here before deer season. It's just a lifestyle that I was raised in..I actually was offered a spot on a local team for the upcoming season.
