Ruger, finally being good!

So Ruger has been down at the barn and has been being ridden partly by me and partly by the other assistant trainer there. (Yep, for those of you that have been reading my thread about my Mom, we finally reached a good compromise on the training thing)

Anywho we did a lot of rounding onto the bit, because after several months off Ruger is of the opinion that he can string himself out and flip his head upside down like a coyote howling at the moon. Plus I started working on his stops and spins. He's putting some slides down again, not big ones, but enough to make me happy. His spins aren't particularly fast yet but they are very correct, he just needs to loosen up more which will come in time and training. I think at the end of this month I should be able to start him doing flying changes. He does simple and interrupted changes very well, he just needs to get back into work before he can start back on his normal workout routine.

Alright, without further ado, here's some pictures of the super star:

Oh and I rode him bareback for the first time. Last time anyone was on him bareback he freaked out, did NOT like it at all. So, I stuck on my noggin-bucket (aka one very bowl-like troxel helmet because I forgot my good helmet) and rode him around. He did SO good. He didn't even care. I did w/t/c both directions, and then took him to the middle and did some haunch/forehand turns and sidepassing, then trotted the barrel pattern just for kicks.

Glad you fixed that rope halter...

Congrats on bareback!! And I'm glad you both reached a compromise! He's looking good and glad he's coming along nicely!

very attractive horse with neat markings.

Thanks for the compliments guys!!

and LOL Sky, Ruger is the hardest horse to please with halters. Normally at the barn I leave his halter on under the bridle. I could not, for the life of me, find a halter that even remotely fit him that wasn't in use...We have two I normally use and they were being used by two other people, so I had to compromise with that rope halter and the tail was freakin' long! (As I'm sure you observed, with it being wrapped around a bazillion times....)

Haha yeah he's got a very slim face, nothing like what rope halters look like.. they're usually better fit for stockier horses. There are instructions to make your own or you could get a custom one. Love all the available options in the horse industry

How old is he again? Do you have any more pics? He's so handsome :)

OMG he is so cute!!!! If he goes missing...I didn't do it!!! :D

Sky - He's three, and I definitely won't be using that halter again...It was a pain in the a**....lol I have a nylon halter for him but I normally keep it at home and use the barn halters for him. (I love my barn but halters get switched around so much, so I don't leave my personal ones down there or they get lot in the flood of halters) I need to get him one with his name on it. Hopefully he keeps growing into his big head....lol

And again, thanks for the compliments :) If nothing else he is SO flashy, I love him!
