B-1 To Calm A Horse. Anyone Use It?

My gelding is extremely spooky and high strung. I'm constantly working with him, but he's always on high alert. I can't move anything in the paddock or he'll have an episode over it. I was reading about B-1 and thought it might be worth a try. Does anyone use it?

I have used it in the past with TBs on the track that 'washed out' in the paddock. It may have helped a little, but I could not see a whole lot of improvement.

I have used Magnesium a lot more and think it does a lot of good. We use a free-choice loose mineral that is 2% Magnesium. It also has 4 times as much Calcium (Ca) as Phosphorus (P) and has 150,000 units of Vitamin a per pound. It is only appropriate for horses eating grass and grass hay. Horses eating alfalfa or other legumes do not need that much Ca.

You can get loose minerals with up to 5% Magnesium, but we have not found that more is better. The 2% Mag seems to work very well and also helps a horse utilize the Ca and Vitamin A in their diets.

Yes, it works very well. I had my OTTB on it for the few months after he came off the track, and it definitely helped.

I had my Arab gelding on it for a little while and saw a subtle difference. He ended up responding better to a Magnesium supplement, though.
