Critique New Mare
So this is my mare Tipsy. She was a rescue and when i got her she was 100-200 lbs under weight, now the vet says she is looking really good. Little bit of information that i know on her: She is 3 years old this May, she is paint (have to register her, have all the papers just need to submit it to APHA-both parents were registered paints) I posted before about her friend, the really skinny paint mare(who is doing great by the way).
I was just wondering what people thought of her. Any input would be great. I am horrible with conformation. One of the pictures is recent and one is before I got her.
I like her in the first pic. I am not the best at confo either, but from what I can tell, she looks good to me :-)
I will let the experts on here do their thing :-D They will probably want better posed pics though so they can get a better idea.
I will take some better conformation pictures of her tomorrow. I saw the other threads and what their pictures looked liked. Thanks.
Yep, pictures of her from the side with her feet square and head level will give us a better idea. Take ones from the front and back (tail pulled aside) as well.
You can pat yourself on the back bc she is good flesh, now. It's hard to see her from the side. She looks solid. She looks like her shoulder is a bit straight. This would give her a rougher gait. You'll want to move that halter up above the cartilage on her nose, more like this:
You can punch some more holes in that halter, which is big for her.
Confirmation is difficult to see and there are very few perfect specimens.
Bless you for adopting her. She's very lucky. =D
Take some shots perpendicular to her sides which include full leg shots. If she stands so that her side legs kind of hide the legs behind (picture looks like the horse only has 2 legs) that's a good thing. The front legs pastern's should be about 45 degrees and the back pasterns should be about 50 degrees in slope. Shorter cannon bones are stronger than longer ones. She's a bit Roman-nosed, and I don't see that as a defect.
Alright thanks! I will get some good pics tomorrow. Her halter was new and the pics were taken while I was getting the leather punch to fix it. Lol. It was practically falling off her face!

I think she looks wonderful. I rescued my mare 2 weeks ago & she looks half dead compared to yours. I cannot and will probably never learn/understand how to post pics to this or any other forum so I cannot send pic of my mare, but trust me yours looks great for a "rescue".
I'd like to wait for the confo pics, but so far, so good. :D
Here they are:
She was the better of the three that we rescued. She is an easy keeper so getting her to look better wasn't hard, she was really wormy though. The other mare that I am gonna post updates on (Cheyenne) was only 700lbs when we first got her, was wearing canoe's for feet and was covered in lice! Good luck with your mare! Would love to see pics of her. If you pm me i can give you my e-mail.
