How do you conquer the horrors of static?

Lately with the weather change, we have been having a huge static issue. I have a show coming up and I really don't want to go into a show ring again with static tail. I have tried sprain in conditioners, hair spray, rubbing it with dryer sheets, Champion Pepi. It goes away for about 5 minutes but then POOF it's back.... any tips?

I haz static tail, yez????

That looks neat! Have you tried static guard spray?

Cinnys Whinny 05-08-2012 09:58 PM

I haven't seen static guard spray, I'll have to look for it. Will it dry his tail out?

I don't know if this will work or not, but I raise alpacas and work with fleeces all the time. They are so light and fluffy without any naturally occuring oils that static is a nightmare!
I will often spray my hands and work surfaces that I sort fleeces on with Static Guard.

Haha, posting at the same time. So far I haven't noticed it affecting the fleeces in terms of dryness. I would just wash it out after the show.

Wow, Curly's tail was doing that a while ago, all we did was spray it with no-nots (thoroughly) and brush it out carefully and it fixed it!

Sounds like your static-issue may be more persistent

I've used the aerosol Endust with the yellow cap (only). Someone big time into showing told me about it. Works great. If not you can always use it on your furniture. It's a great detangler.

Try using show sheen or another type of spray in that style. One of the horses that I used to work with was horribly staticy especially in the winter months and the show sheen helped tremendously

Maybe just rub some hand lotion in it? Or leave in moisturizer?

Does it make it oily or anything? I'm hoping for a "weightless and floating" tail but without static ha ha.

I've tried Show Sheen, Laser Sheen, Champion Pepi, Cowboy magic...all they do is dry the hair out, still get static back within 5 or 10 minutes :(

I'm afraid that would make him too "greasy" for the show ring, unless you know a specific brand that won't weigh down the tail and make it look gunky.
