Getting our simple changes faster?
So my mare and I have JUST made the switch from Eventing to Hunters and our first show is next weekend! She doesn't have her flying lead changes yet, so we'll have to make do with simples for now...but in last night's ride I noticed that when we get jumping (which she LOVES and gets her going!) she sometimes doesn't want to break to a trot to then pick up the simple change. So that results in an off balance corner and then a really sloppy looking change when I finally get her to back off and break to a trot for a few strides.
Sooooo anyway have any tips or exercises on how to get her downwards faster so that we can make the change look more fluid (without me having to fight with her face to do it)??
I know we need to just work on our downwards in general on the flat, but wondered if anyone had any exercises they do that helps?
Bump...anyone have any good exercises?

Subbing, have a similar problem. I have to tug a bit more then id like coming down from canter in general. We have flying changes, but id still like some assistance :p
Yeah, I actually found a nice little trick playing around the other day...if I tug on both reins it normally takes longer AND she throws her head up. If I ONLY tug on the OUTSIDE rein, it works much better and faster!! (and of course it goes without saying first that it should come from seat/legs/back and THEN reins, but since it has to happen in a split second it usually ends up being the reins that stop Sandie anyway ;)
my gelding has that problem too! he likes to canter and jump and doesn't want to stop!
