I've been looking for a new(different, not new I guess) saddle for over 2 months, because out current one took little too big for me and Specs, so I've been looking absolutely everywhere online, on Craigslist, tack trader, tack swaps, auctions, and theres just absolutely nothing that fits my criteria. Right now I'm not giving much lee way on my "criteria" because I want what I want, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something I don't want.
My criteria: barrel saddle, square skirt, not TOO old, 13"-14", semi qhb, used but still very usable, high cantle, nice brand, no colorful seats or anything like that, and around $300.
Do you think I'm being too uptight about my specifics, or should I just start settling for something else? What would you do? it seems like I'll find one that I really like, but then look at the price or size and it's wrong.
I'm so frustrated.
What would you do? Is anyone else in the same boat?
To me, $300 is really really cheap for a saddle, even a secondhand saddle.
Horses aren't cheap, up your budget.
I am not farmiliar with western saddle prices, but when I bought my close contact jumping saddle, by the time I found one that actually fit my horse and myself, I believe it was around $700 (it was used but like new). Thankfully I am able to borrow a dressage saddle.
Well I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm looking for a dressage saddle and I know what I want. But what I want is out of my budget right now so I'm saving. I also think 300 for what you are looking for is cheap. I can find saddles all day for that price but they are old and need care or poor quality new ones. I would say to double your budget.
