Showing a Shetland - What and How should he look?
My mum is going to bring my Shetland to shows - So what should he look like!
His nice and fluffy - Pro or Con?? I saw the shetlands last show, and they are fluffy!
I have a little show halter.
and should I die his tail or legs completely black? (check out the photos)
Photos - not washed or anything, but here you can see his colour (:
First two are summer coat - Will have to take one of his winter coat.
What, exactly, do you mean by "fluffy"?
I don't know much about how a Shetland "should" look for a show. But as I guess, I would just say a real good groom + show halter = super cute shetland!
I'm not sure it's preferable for any breed to be shown with a winter coat, if that's what you're asking. If winter's beginning where you are, you might want to consider blanketing him so he doesn't grow a huge coat in.
I would not dye his legs black. But then again I don't show shetlands.
Thanks everyone - I mean by fluffy, as in winter coat, and yeah winter is starting, but his already super fluffy - Will get a photo soon.
I love your pony
Don't die his legs or tail as there is nothing wrong with him being grey in the show ring. I don't know the rules of the stud book in Australia but in Britain it is against the rules to clip them unless for a medical reason. Winter coats are fine as there are shows in the middle of winter the rest of the ponies will also be getting fluffy.
Don't know if this will be helpful is it British but presuming it will be the same over there.
He is lovely by the way you should do well. Good luck and I hope I helped.
Thanks (: I will leave him all natural, but give him a good wash!!! :D now just have to find my show halter!
Oh just remembered stuff!
I regularly attend the Australian Pony Studbook shows (albeit with fjords).
I have never seen a clipped Shetland, they show them "naturally" just super clean! Tails are super fluffed, manes are kept long but still pulled neatly, halters or bridles seem to be acceptable.
Are you just doing in hand or ridden as well?
