Hello! Trying to get into Rodeo'ing Please Help
Found this forum and registered, seems like good people here. Anyway I am 22 years old and from Billings, MT. I want to get into rodeo-in, I always wanted to do it but never had time. I grew up on a ranch so I am familiar with horses and such, I left my ranch when I was 12 to live with my mother since my dad was having problems with drugs. Unfortunately when I left I was not able to learn things like this and it frustrates me. I want to get into either Bareback riding or Bull-riding. Any tips on how to start and also am I too OLD, I feel like I have a late start and am to old to learn think so????
I am 6'0 about 200lbs, I bodybuild so I am pretty thick, was thinking I was to big for bullriding? I really dont know what event would suit me best, I really like bareback it looks awesome and I heard its good for people who are strong and can hang on of course I am sure theres tons of technique. Either way when I get back from North Dakota and my 56 day work hitch Ill have money to travel to a rodeo school.. Was thinking sankey for BB or Terry Don Wests bull riding school. Maybe Ill try both. Sorry for the long read and thank you for any input!
Shorter, more wiry guys are better cut out for the rough stock events.
Based on your description of your physique, steer wrestling might be a stronger event for you than bareback or bull riding.
