I think... I taught my dad something!
Most of you know my Squiggy, my silly red dun mare. I wanted my dad to ride her to help me sort out some issues and figure out what to do about her loping problems. So, we went for a ride in the fields the other afternoon.
They don't like each other, it was plain to see. Poor Squiggy was g-r-u-m-p-y! Anyways, he took off and worked some of her issues out while I followed slowly behind him.
As we were riding back home, he came trotting up to me, had her on loose rein and nicely collected up.
This was the man that argued me until he was blue in the face that collection was a bunch of BS, and it was all kinds of bad and awful yadda yadda
I laughed, because if I didn't laugh, I would have cried.
Squiggy was still giving me the grumpy face, but she looked less pissy than she did when he got on her.
And then my dad starts talking about how he had to figure her out before he could do anything, like how to get her to go, you just had to squeeze a little bit with your calf and that kicking doesn't work. He kept on talking about how when she played with the roller on the bit that she was happy or satisfied. He also went on talking about how she doesn't neck rein, she "leg reins". He also figured out how to get her collected, and he kept on getting her into a trot just so he could collect her up and she would trot "all fancy like" (my mothers words).
Honest to god, he was like a kid with a shiny new toy.
Meanwhile, I just did the "smile and nod". Squiggy is one special horse if she can teach my stubborn old dad something!
