Horses got shoes what do you think?
We never shoe our horses just trim them since they rarely get ridden. I had a new guy out yesterday and I think the shoes look sloppy what do you all think?
Well...I certainly am not impressed.
Yeah they look more then sloppy to me :( they look non professional, sorry to say but also the hoof looks bad also, looks super dry
I am looking forward to what Mark has to say about these ha ha! I know I am not the best judge but they look really really sloppy. I wouldnt want my horses like that. Who did them? (no names but a professional ferrier or??)
I know nothing about horseshoes, but these look bad. What can I do for the dryness? I have been putting hoof conditioner on them is there something else to use?
If your horses are rarely ridden, what made you decide to get them shod?
How old are your horses?
Suppose to be a professional:cry:
I've seen better, but it's not that bad. This horse has a LOT of cracks. Looks like he's been in the mud lately, bc that's what causes them to dry out. It's like when you hand wash a bunch of dishes and your hands get really dried out but the time you're done.
IMHO, keep these hooves VERY dry. Clean daily, maybe used a hoof supplement AND some cream or pine tar, or whatever is your favorite hoof dressing to help them heal. Have your farrier determine when to re-shoe, but I would keep him in shoes until about next March. It will take THAT LONG to grow our those cracks. Sorry, but I've seen hoof cracks on MY horses that have to grow out, and it just takes F O R E V E R!!!! Then, you can go barefoot, if you like. =D
