What makes what??
Which color combos make what? What do you have to cross to get a Palomino from a bay? Or can you? Is there like a chart anywhere that shows what color you get from what combo?
I think you can just about get any color from that mix but I also think that's how you get duns and buckskins.
No not just that combo I ment like a chart where you can see if you bred one colored horse with another different colored horse what would the color of the foal most likely be.
From a bay you are most likely to get a buckskin. You may get a palomino but that depends on what genetics your mare has. The only sure way you are going to get a color cross is if you breed to a perlino, cremello, or a smokey cream. Any horse that has a double dilute genetic when crossed with a non dilute horse will produce at least a single dilute foal. (palomino, buckskin, smokey black,)
Heres a link that explains about it.
This one has a chart
its not just about this color with this color. Its about the backgrounds too.
Bay and Palomino
Say it took black and sorrel to make the Bay.
Say it took Buckskin and Chestnut to make Palomino.
So now you have Black, Sorrel, Bay, Buckskin, Chestnut, and Pally.
If that makes sense. lol.
With diluted genes it is about this color with this color. Simply because after all a palomino is a chestnut with a single diluted gene. A perlino is a Chestnut with 2 diluted genes. Therefore if you breed a Double dilute to a non dilute horse the only possibility is a single dilute whether it takes the form of a Buckskin, Palomino, or a Smokey black. Where it gets complicated is predicting which one of those 3 you will get. Now that will be based on her background as well as the studs. However a dilution is guaranteed.
This may be what you are looking for.
