Whiteline disease and thrush share much in common save their location in the foot.

Here's a thread that speaks to both.

In addition to Mark's helpful post about thrush... white line disease/seedy (& thrush) toe is an opportunistic infection that does not tend to invade healthy tissue. So if it's present, it's also an indication that something else is amiss, be that hoof form, integrity, environment, diet...

Generally IME WLD is able to 'get in' because of hoof mechanics - long toes &/or heels creating leverage & separating/stretching the laminae, walls under too much pressure cracking & allowing the bugs in. It's vital to treat the basic cause, not just the symptoms.
