Conformation critique my 2 mini's
I an thinking about showing these 2. More then likely not until next summer, as neither of them are in shape. Would either of them be worth showing?
Percy is the first one, he is a 4 year old stud. A tad over 29 inches. He needs to put on a little weight still as he was battling a bad round of tape worms. Good thing he is in his own pasture away from everyone else!
Second is Harley he is 3 year and 32 inches. He has a little bit of a hay belly.
Please excuse his horrible body clip job, he was last to be done and the blade was so dull! Will be buying a new one this weekend.
Obviously both need conditioning. The pics are not good for conformation critique either. You need to stand them up on a solid surface, four-square. Both look a bit sickle-hocked and might be club-footed in the rear.
What exactly are you planning to show them in? Do they jump/drive?
Don't allow them to graze for more than an hour each day. You will have to watch their feed incredibly closely, to get them in show condition.
As FeatheredFeet said, with unclipped coats and hay bellies, they are not showring ready. But, I do have to say they are very cute.
If you don't already, you should consider body-clipping them. Minis tend to shed out way later than horses, and when the hair grows back, it is "fresh" and clean, as well as rich in color. If you do feed them grain, consider cutting back a bit on it and exercising them more. Going up and down hills, jumping, carrying weight, even lunging helps! They would also need cut down bridle paths.
