Living in a area where we are having lots of shootings
So I'm sur eyiu fellow Seattle people heard today we had two shootings, one that left two people dead on the scene with three other in critical condition and might not make it. This happened just an hour or so ago by my school. Heard the shots, then had so many cops and aid cars fly by me. Really scary and sad. The other shooting was a car jacking and they just found the car in my home neighborhood (west Seattle area) where there a couple months ago a lady was killed blocks away from my house and killer not found still.....a couple weeks after that we get a rapiest going around raping young girls at gun point in my neighborhood as well.
Just this last weekend we had folk life festival and the day before I was there to hangout there was a shooting.....there was another shooting involving a cops kids a couple months ago as well in Seattle....I could go on

As a young 20 year old girl who walks to and from school from work and buses from home this si very nerv wracking I get out if classes at 830 at night and have to walk 30 minutes yo my bus, I hate transferring buses....

I was just getting over the scary gun incident that happened on halloween this last fall....I was walking to the bus and there was a huge fight happening, my phone wasn't working at time and I couldn't call 911...seemed like the fight was broken up when they started walking away from each other and all of us people who where right there trying to break it up and cross the street to get away from it and they pulled guns on each other there was about 12 or more of us in between both guns one guy in the cross walk the other on the street...cops arrived and one guy ran dropping his gun other was arrested and we all had to give statements of what we saw happen and what the other guy looked like...I had been trying to walk past ts guy in the cross walk cause my mom was going to pick me up on the other and two other girls where within 3 feet if the guy when they pulled their guns and the cops showed up

I'm so over this and don't feel safe anymore!
Now my boyfriend is taking me to and from classes and home when I get bout at night just to be on on safe side.
I don't want to get shot:shock:

oh golly girl. go take some classes on martial arts or something and become jackie chan ..but on a serious note carry pepper spray, stay away from any fights that break out, make sure you phone is always charged when your walking alone and making sure you are talking on the phone when out alone... no one will interupt someone on a phone call bc there is higher chance of getting caught as it will be reported by the other person... um... stay safe hugs* ps sorry you were practically head at gun point :(

Guns aren't your problem. Bad people are your problem. Guns are simply the latest tool man uses to kill each other. Men killed each other when all they could find were rocks. If you aren't arming yourself, you are making a mistake. Whether it be a stun gun or something else until, you turn 21 and become a concealed carrier. I grew up south of Seattle and I know there are lots of creepy people there. It's in the culture.

You live in a large city.
There will be shootings murders, rapes and robberies every day.
Walking alone at night by yourself is never wise.
Stay alert to your surroundings and stay in well lighted areas.
Your best defense is to be aware of what and who is around you.
I would also not take the same route home or have the same routine every night.
I would not personally carry a gun. It won't do you any good in your purse and no criminal is going to allow you to retrieve it.
If something does happen your best defense is to cooperate.
Do not allow yourself to be taken anywhere if you can do so without bringing harm to your self. Shalom

Oh ****, not a cool place. I really dont know how to help you being i live in the country. People will say dont bother carrying a gun, but if you think it would be a good idea go ahead. Do a pistol carrying course and all. My family carries, including my aunt who lived in a pretty bad city for a while and carried, it saved her once. It can save your life. Its better than nothing and in the time a robber, rapist, who ever can cover ground running at you or walking and you with a pistol you can put oh man i think it was you can put atleast 1 round in them from a pretty close distance. But really look into a concealed weapon, ask me about it ill gladly explain in more detail and give you legit reasons to carry. Pepper spray or a tazer cant really cut it alot of the time.

Pure BS. There are absolutely no provable statistics that back that up. Nothing but liberal talking points. I personally know of 2 people, both in her part of the world who have been saved by guns in their purse. I'd rather have it and not need than need it and not have it. I know, it goes against what you push onto the more gullible people of our society but there is nothing wrong with being prepared, in any situation. Then again, I guess if more 20 year old girls had the means to defend themselves, you'd have fewer criminals to "rehabilitate"?

I can't have a knife I'll get in huge trouble at school a gun with a permit to carry is eaiser to explain

It been a really long stressful sad day, 6 people died from the guy who did the shootings, he was known to have mental illness and it's just so sad, he killed himself at 430 today right by my house ( wasn't home was still in downtown) and
Honestly I don't think I have ever been so nervouse and freaked out... Walking to the bus tonight I got to a what is always a very busy street, 3rd in downtown and by bus is on the Jill between 3rd and 2nd I stepped out onto 3rd and it was a ghost town I was the only one in many blocks both ways
No cars
No peoole
No buses
Just me
It's never been like that in all my life!!
I was shaking while waiting for the bus
I am about to go curl up in bed and not get out until I have to go back into downtown for my dr apts....
What a day

I have lived in Seattle all my life. Shootings were extremely rare when I was a child. Now, the increase in shootings is tied in large part to the influx of gangs, and in particular, hispanic gangs up from California. And, since funding for mental health treatment or care of the homeless is virtually nonexistant , they go untreated and living on the streets. I heard that mental illness had something to do with today's killing.

I do not carry a gun. I am just careful where and when I walk at night. as for being a victim of a stray bullet, as have two persons in the last week here, there is nothing one can do about that. It's like any other freak accident, it happens and you cannot predict where or when. but, it is really sad that people are using guns to settle arguments at the drop of a hat these days. (which is what was happening when the two bystanders where shot, one in the leg and one fatally in the head)
