Best fly spray.
I have a big fly problem my mare looks like she was bit 1000 time and has huge bumps everywhere she was bit.
What is teh best fly spray to use?
I buy the liquid permethrin and cut it with water, then add some ACV. Seems to work as well as anything more costly.
Skin so soft apparently works.. but I'm about to try Bite Free Biting Fly Repellent due to good reviews
Bite Free™ Biting Fly Repellent - Repellents from SmartPak Equine
Honestly depends on the horse and how their body chemistry reacts to the chemicals in the fly spray.
If she is getting bit up in turnout, I'd suggest a regular sheet while the temps are lower and then a fly sheet when it starts staying hot.
When the flies get really bad, once the big horse flies and deer flies are out, I use Absorbine UltraShield EX fly spray. My horses seem to be especially sensitive to fly bites, they get big welts from the bites plus they get very agitated by them, and this keeps them bump free and happy.
When the flies aren't too bad, I use Farnam Bronco fly spray, it works well to keep the blackflies and mosquitos from biting.
I would prefer to use something natural, but I haven't found anything else that seems to work.
Thanks I just looked into the absorine ultrashield ex and just got it on order and coming. Along with equi-spot.
4 to 1, Mac. Any weaker, and it's just marinade!
The best one I've found is Wipe II, in the green bottle (not the original concentrate you mix, the ready to spray). It works for both skeeters and biting flies, it seems.
If the bugs are very bad or I'm trail riding, I spray my horses with Deep Woods Off.
Mine come in the barn during prime bug time, so they do not get too bit up, luckily.
Pyranna works really well, but it gave one of my horses a pretty bad reaction. I can use it on the other two and they are fine. So just be careful with it.
