Money set aside for misc. Vet care

What do you guys consider an ideal (realistic) amount to have put aside for emergency/miscellaneous veterinary care?

I would say anywhere from $500- $1000, and maybe more if anything more serious is involved. I say $1000 just because you never know if your horse needs to stay at the vet for intensive care, meaning daily board and care at the vets office, plus treatment.

I would say at least $500. that would give you a nice down payment if anything worse happens. I would not stop there, just keep adding to it. I have a fund that any extra $$ I come across goes in, like birthday, tax refund, even if I return anything to the store the cash I get back goes into my kitty. It is good for saving $$ too.

Personally I take what I spend on a monthly basis and say I want at least 5 months of that money saved up for emergency (incase I lose a job or incase there's a huge vet bill)

I literally just made a budget on mint.com which is linked to my account and gives me a realistic finish date depending on how much money I contribute to it every month.

Approx. $1000

i have had a $300 vet bill turn into a $1500 vet bill within 5 days after the vet left due to a infection in the leg. So you never know. I would say atleast $1000 set aside maybe more. Its always nice to have a nice cushion to fall on if things hit the fan.

I thought $1000 sounded like a good number. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base (yes I understand it could be much worse)

I try to keep about $2,500 set back. Of course, I have four horses of my own and keep two for my sister, so maybe it should be more?

I, fortunately, have not yet *knock on wood* had to find out. Only routine things thus far...
