What's in your grooming box?
What's in your grooming box?
I lost mine at a show...
Looking for new ideas to put into my new one :)
What all is in yours???
Not much - I tend to keep it simple.
A stiff body grooming brush
A soft brush for face & those finishing touches
A microfibre cloth
A sweat scraper
A hoofpick with a brush
A mane & tail comb
A hard curry comb
A rubber massage curry comb
And a jar of Leovet bug repellant gel.
I don't have one box. I picked up a free, wooden tv cabinet (for a really big tv!!) from the curb last Fall. The people waved "thank you" when we put in on the back of my truck.
SOOO...I keep ALL tack cleaning supplies, wound treatments, extra fly spray stuff AND grooming items, at the ready, in this.
What I USE on a routine basis is the same as I did over 25 years ago.
--small, supple rubber curries
--round, metal curries--works great to start a mane or tail, and super for winter grooming
--several, old-fashioned hoof picks
--SWAT--under the eyes, and I've started to coat their ears with it, instead of fly spray
--pebbled gloves, for hand-grooming their faces, and to apply fly spray BELOW the eyes, so it won't sweat into them
--Show Sheen (knock-off) AND corn oil, to detangle manes and tails
My grooming box is pretty simple as far as contents go. I keep your normal body brush, curry comb, a mental curry comb that I use ONLY for cleaning out the body brush, two sponges, a clean cloth, mane and tail brush, rubber bands, hoof pick and hoof oil brush. I keep my fly spray, home-made show sheen, wound medications, sun screen and hoof treatments on a shelf in my tack shed. The coolest thing that I like to do is I go and buy a heavy duty plastic tool box from Home Depot or Lowes type stores and that's where I keep all my brushes etc. Its cool because it locks and I've run into issues with theft before. Most of them also have compartments in the top of the box made for nails and such, but I just keep treats in there.
I don't even have my baby yet and I've already stocked up on so much stuff.
- 17 assorted brushes, from hard to medium to soft, to rubber/metal curry and combs
- sweat scraper
- a couple hoof picks
- 3 lead ropes
- 3 halters (not including his show halter)
- Show Sheen finishing mist
- Mane bands(clear sparkles~)
- collapsible bucket, which is AWESOME, especially for shows with limited tack space
- hay bag
- grooming tote to carry all my junk
- that purple "Win by a Nose" nose shaver
- Fly Mask with Ears
- the Miss Mitt
I'm still working on stuff as I have about 3-4 months before I begin showing him.
PINK spray for sheen/detangling
Pyrahnna fly spray
Hoof pick w/ brush
I also have my small vet kit in my grooming bag.

Each horse has its own grooming bucket on the wall outside their stable.
Metal curry comb, rubber curry dandy brush, good quality body brush, cloth, two sponges, hoof pick, a handled dog comb.
That's it. I rarely ever put anything on their feet and if I do it is Neatsfoot oil.
nothing! gahhh please put it back after you use it ...lol
mine same as above..I keep it simple
but I also have a jump box in the trailer with "emergency" stuff, duck tape, kling, betadine, saline, wraps, bute, etc.
My favourite brush is actually a dog brush! It's a double sided brush - one is about the same as a stiff body brush, and the other has wider, metal bristles (I'm sure there's a name for it but I can't think of it) that works great for manes and tails. That way I can take one brush and it does the work of several. (This isn't the same brand, but this is what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/Safari-Bristle-Medium-Brush-Handle/dp/B0002RJM9Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1339448989&sr=8-5)
(Of course there's the other basics in there too - hoof pick, clippers, rags, detangling spray, etc)
It is actually one of the Classic Equine Brush Totes
Mane and Tail Brush
Hoof Pick's...(They seem to multiply in my bag)
Shapleys Mane Mousse
PINK Sheen Spray
Rubber Bands (For me)
Sprayer Bottle w/ Water
I think that is everything....
