back legs rubbing ?

Ok sometimes when my mare walks/trots, her left hind leg turns inward and sometimes clips the other hoof. Sometimes she does it sometimes not..Its not heated or swollen.

We just had her feet done a week ago so thats not the problem.

It sounds like a conformational issue, possibly she's cow hocked. If this is a new development, I'd talk to your vet and see if she's injured herself. It could also be she needs to be trimmed differently. A picture of her rear legs would be helpful if you have one.

ok ill try to get a pic,

How old is she? If you get a pic try to get her squared up and a straight shot of her back legs.

She is 5, I think she needs her teeth floated, we just got her feet done and she is a freakin wiggle worm.. I got the pics but dint get the behind shot. going back out for that..

Well i better call fhotd, and tell them i have a fugly horse.. :?

How can i been so dumb not to notice that... grrrr so can she be ridden ? what is she limited too ?

lacyloo 08-04-2008 11:23 AM

And another thing, she has a high but and high withers.. She is standing on flat ground though. Her butt doesn't look like it belongs to her. she is very thin in the butt .

since her butt is so thin that means you need to work on collection to build her butt muscles and lots of collected trotting!

and just bc her back feet are turned out like that she isnt limited to anything, just talk to ur farrier and tell him whats happening and ou should be able to avoid that with correct trimming.

another thing you can try it putting rear fetlock boots or wrapping her legs with polo wraps, that will make her more aware of her back feet and prob hit eachother a lot less.

Thanks for the info, I tried to google sway feet and nothing cam up so I guess I will go to the feed store and get the polo wraps ?

thanks for the info, if anyone knows a good website or any other tips on this please let me know.
