I truly think they have to invest into the new tax system and computers... Those scams getting ridiculous....

She's gonna go to jail for a very, very long time. You know how much the government hates competition! :-P

Seriously, how could they have looked over her return and thought in any way, shape or form it was legitimate? Somebody needs to lose their job over this. :?

I think they have it automated, and the program is so old that it simply fails.

Interesting enough though when I did a mistake once while back for my state taxes they sent me the revised version like in a month asking to correct it. :) So I assume some are better than others at that.

That's correct, but it's all about how you flag it. Often only very high level personnel can make a decision on over-riding + also depends on how clear is the flag. I suspect neither was a case here.

I'm not excusing the employee who did it though: I do think the qualification often lacks on such position (which is sad).
