Hi all, I lost my mother a year ago today :-(
That is not my main reason for writting this thread however.
I am actually looking for advice from our American cousins regarding a possible immigration question,
Before our mothers passing and for a while after the funeral my brother who is married to an American citizen would ring our English family every sunday,
We have only heard from him by telephone twice since he returned to the states after his last visit early this year.
Out of the blue about three weeks ago I recieved a series on emails over 3 or 4 days that in the end obviously appeared to have been written by his wife, all this was to find out if I had a copy of his birth certificate.
My question is: why after 12 years of living as an American citizen with US ID and Driving Licence would he suddenly want his Birth Certificate?
Is it needed for a US citizenship application or is there any other reason that a British birth Certificate be needed?
Thank you for any help
He may want to renew his passport and need it.. That or if he has children, they could be looking at getting their citizenship so that they can travel. I have lived in Ireland for 10 years, but am applying for Canadian citizenship for my kids so that in coming years, should they want to go over they can.
Thanks maple, he has step children but they are US citizens, he always said that he would only go as far a duel nationality because he's proud of being a brit
I never had a reply to the email when I asked him why he needed the birth certificate
Could be getting divorced

That'd be the best news I've had for a year (at least) would he need BC for that?
If you don't have it, it isn't that difficult to get a new one. I can apply for a new one from here. I also understand where is coming from regarding nationality... I keep getting asked when I'm applying for citizenship here... but I don't have any desire to. I'm proud to be Canadian, and have no desire at all to change that.
Yes, I've been racking my brain for the name of the place we brits write to for that
There are multiple things in the US that require a copy of one's birth certificate.
