My Qh gelding has an hoof absess and the vet came out cut some hoof off, gave him shots, checked him over and checked his stifle (nothings wrong with it!) and asked how long i was ridding him for i told him the past 2 years not much longer then 30 minutes a few times a month. he asked why "two young horses" he told me not to stop ridding him because he has muscle and looks like an amazing horse. so i was wondering how long till i could ride him after all of this? i dont want to miss out on trials this year!
we are giving him shots, and soaking his hoof for 10 to 15 minutes a day. my ferrier is coming out tomorrow morning to trim everyone. how long to let him rest? how long till i can get him back to normal?
Depends (Gawd I hate that word) on your farrier and the abcess.
What did the vet tell you, he's the one w/ the degree?
he said to do the soaks for a week or two, and do the shots till saterday. i just want to get him back into riding again! ive missed him.
I used to open abscess', clean w/ iodine crystals/gum turpintine, set shoes and put them back to work in most cases. Not so much today due to "meth".:-|
