Dressage horse with sway back. HELP!
Ok, so I'm leasnig my new horse Spider from the guy that owns the farm I'm at and he has TONS of horses and none of them EVER get ridden. I just recently started riding him* i was too nervous before seeing he hasent been ridden in atleast 5 years!!! Well he has a sway back, its not too bad but I just dont want it to get worse... When I ride hes just fine & I've been doing reading and it says riding dressage helps alot... Should I just keep riding or what should I do?!?! Help! C:

Good, basic riding will help.
He needs to build up more muscle over his back, and this is achieved by getting his hind legs engaged and having him start to swing over his back. If you allow him to work hollow with a stiff back, then yes, it will get worse.

it depends on the cause of the sway back. if the horse has lordosis, it is genetic and has no bearing on their athletic ability, as it is just a curvature of the spine. you can read more here: The Truth about Horse Swaybacks
good luck! regardless, lots of trot work will help build up topline which will help ANY horse regardless of spinal conformation!
