Hi, I have a light colored paint with a completely white face. He gets sunburnt on his muzzle and around his eyes. I'm looking for something to cure his sunburn but will not drip into his eyes. Any suggestions?

Zinc oxide (generic diaper rash creme). It's thick and messy, but stays on and world great.

Never tried it for a horse but what about aloe vera gel? Are you looking for something to help an existing sunburn or prevent one??

I hope you are doing something to prevent the burn, not just treat? You can treat for the rest of his life if you don't prevent!
I'd be investing in a full face fly mask, with ear attachments and a nose flap (with cut out nostrils to avoid suffocation should the horse drink, wetting the flap and then inhale.)
You can also use zinc - go with the full face mask and then zinc around expose nostril edges.

I'm looking for something to both cure and prevent his sunburn...sorry that I did not make that clear.

I use Kensington Catch Masks with ears and full face flaps. They are constructed in a way that they couldn't suffocate a horse. I also use 50 SPF sunscreen on the 2 horses I have who burn. I put it on everytime they are worked and then then put the Catch Mask on right after and both have stopped burning.

Can you use sunscreen meant for people on horses?? Wouldn't you worry that there might be something in it that wouldn't be ok for the horse?

We have had people who used desitin (the cream for diaper rash) on their cats who were too fat to clean themselves...except its toxic for cats...

gee! thanks everyone even though this isnt my thread i am recently figuring out im having the same problem!

I use Banana Boat for kids/babies. Haven't had a problem and it seems to help with the dryness of the skin that just covering it up doesn't help.

Here's "Pinkie" and yes, she is just that irridescent when she's clean. She's so fine skinned that when she works the blood comes to her face and she looks burned but isn't. When she's burned she blisters and peels and it cracks and is dry for a very long time. The catch mask stops the burning but it didn't help heal the dry, tender, sensitive skin and the suntan lotion does. I picked one with a lot of lanolin in it for that reason.
