New roughout saddle care
Just got my new roughout cutting saddle today....is there anything I should do conditioning/oil before I first use it? I am new to western tack and I have alway oiled my English saddles before first use....

The factory has looked after it for now. Don't wear black chaps and don't soap or oil the roughout. It all has to be done on the smooth side, if there is one. I don't know the quality of your saddle.

I will oil the top only if I want to knock down the nap of the rough out. If you are using it for cutting I imagine you would like some stick. But if it is super nappy you might oil then ride it. Eventually with time and sweat roughout gets dark in color and smooth.
That's why I love roughouts, you can take a soft bristle brush and an air compressor to it looks good..LOL
