Is This Healing Okay? (graphic)

Last Saturday Cinny cut his foot just above the coronet and a little bit through it. I've been following the vet's orders and rebandaging it every two days. He ended his penicillin shots a day ago. It was looking really good albeit a little on the stinky side, but today I'm not sure it looks like it's healing right. I know he pulled the stitches and that is part of the problem. The vet did say to expect him to pull the stitches.

I have been taking his temperature every day just so I can keep tabs on signs of infection and it was a steady 99 until yesterday when it raised to just above 100. Today it did go back down to 99 so I am not too worried and yet...it just doesn't seem to look "right" to me.

For those of you who want to see the "before" before you answer you can find before pictures at http://www.horseforum.com/horse-heal...y-very-128181/

Whew, nice to hear because I was thinking it looks bad but I'm not sure what it is supposed to look like.

I think it looks pretty good. Doesn't seem to be draining and it doesn't appear to be swelled. Is it sore still?

Cinnys Whinny 06-28-2012 10:33 PM

Nope, he has no soreness at all. He doesn't mind me messing with it either. He seems completely normal for him except that he has a big, bulky sock looking thing on one foot.

I'd say it looks pretty good - but if you are at all unsure, call your vet and they may even have you forward this same picture to them before they determine if they need to come out or not.
