What can I use to make braided reins?
I want to make my own reins & wither straps but I'm not sure what to use. Don't say parachute cord because I've looked everywhere!
I'm trying some of this stuff...no idea what it looks like, but I'm taking a chance.
50' & 100' Feet 550 lb PARACORD para cord Nylon Type III PARACHUTE ROPE | eBay
What about something I can purchase locally?
What do you think is used in the picture I included? It looks like shoestring or something to me.
Have you considered trying that orange bailing twine you see on some hay? It doesn't fray like the old stuff and just might work!

I was hoping to make them in a variety of colours.
You could probably use different colors of shoestring for the wither straps but they would be far too short for reins.
I don't know about locally, but you can find all kinds of parachute chord on ebay and Amazon.
Have you checked your local sewing store?
walmart, lowes home depot sells 1/8 and 1/4 inch line of different colors. Look in the Hardware section at wally world, you'll have to ask at Lowes.
Locally some craft stores sell colored rope. I use paracord for mine. I buy bulk online.
ETA: you could always buy white rope and dye it too.
