Could someone please give me some more info on the bitless bridle's? Here lately, ive really been wanting to become even closer to my horse, and i was wanting to see how she would react to a bitless bridle. anyone have experiences? And how would i correctly train her to getting use to one? She responds to very light touches now, but im not sure how she would do without a bit.
You can use anything from a halter, flat or rope, a traditional bosal hackamore, a more english type side pull or crossover 'bitless bridle', or a mechanical leverage device such as the English or French so called 'hackamore'. I think any of the first lot can be fine, but I'd avoid the mechanical ones. Depends what you want to do & how you want to train as to which type I reckon, as for eg. a side pull has a different feel, more English & direct, tends to be better for different style cues than a real hackamore or rope halter with reins coming from under the chin, which IMO are better for western style cues.
I would teach your horse to respond to the different feel from the ground first, before teaching her mounted in a safe environment.
I bought the Freedom Bridle from Moss rock endurance.

I love this bridle and plan to start my boy with the combo configuration and then graduate him to bitless.
At my local horse expo last winter, I was considering the idea of a bitless bridle. I realized that it wasn't right for me in my situation, but some people love them! I've heard from some how amazing the technology is and other people have said that bitless bridles could cause suffocation. So, I don't know if that's even true, but the idea of that scared me anyway. It's worth doing research and speaking to more people about their experiences. I realize that an easy dull snaffle is best for me right now.
