Corn Cob Disease?
Has anyone heard of something called "Corn Cob Disease"? I haven't been able to find anything on it. I am an Equine Massage Therapist, and was presented with this question! The trainer just said that the vet mentioned this disease, and that maybe it has something to do with the sacrum. He didn't have any other details. The horse is a 3 year old Standardbred trotter. I appreciate any info you can provide - we are stumped! Hopefully the trainer will get more info from the vet...this is just more for my own curiosity at this point. Thank you!
It means the corn had a fungus. The feed is rotten. Horse's and pigs are affected the worst.
Here's some info:
I think you mean moldy corn disease.
It's mycotoxins and = no good
a school pony i used to ride and LOVED died because of that. It was so sad :(
I would call the vet and get the information directly from him.
Moldy corn wouldn't affect the sacrum, so it may not be what the trainer was talking about. But then again, I have never heard of "corn cob disease" nor can I think of any disease related to corn that would affect the sacrum.
Studies show that we only remember accurately about 1/2 of what our vet says ;)
Yep, I think it's a great idea to bring a notepad (and preferrably a friend to handle the writing or your animal) or a little voice recorder. And of writing down all your questions and concerns before you get to the vet's office.
