Changing horse feed need some advise!!

Ive had my mare on this regular 12.8 feed starting next month she will start to be changed to this feed recomended by my trainer called Equiline horse feed, im changing her to the 14.6 because the old feed just isnt holding up on a competitve barrel horse. Any advise you could give me on this feed or changing feed at all would be much help!!!
Thank you and God Bless!!:D

Hi,

The Equiline is a sweetfeed by the look of it. If so, I wouldn't feed it, and if your current feed is also sweets &/or otherwise starchy/sugary, this may be the reason your horse isn't doing well. I'd find a healthy alternative that's low starch, high fibre.

Especially - but not only - with starchy feeds, feeding little & often is important. Feeding the 'concentrate' ration over a number of small feeds daily, with lots of fibre(chaff or such) added will help the horse utilise the ration better & help minimise the side effects of this sort of diet.

Basically, with any type of feed, little & often is the rule & adding/changing feeds should be done gradually over a week or 2.
