Tail rubbing

Okay I need ideas! Banjo has been rubbing his tail almost obsessively, to the point where the top is almost bald and he has also made the hair on his butt all weird on either side of it. He is wormed regularly and I have tried listerine, mane & tail conditioner, baby oil, fly spray and even louse powder. He does not have a bean- I checked that the other day, and his sheath is clean. I am clean out of ideas- any suggestions?

Sometimes horses get pinworms just like kids do...and I don't think any of the regular wormers work on them. They will cause horses to itch and rub against fences, stalls, whatever until they are almost hairless. I'm sure there's an answer... you could google pinworms in horses or ask your vet. I can't remember what works on them. Good luck

Pyrantel pamoate treats for pinworms. To the OP- what dewormers have you tried and with what frequency?

I rotate wormers- Ivermectin, benzimidole, pyrantel every 2 months. I used Pyrantel yesterday so will see if it does anything. I am beginning to wonder if he has sweet itch because he is rubbing his mane too now.
