Anyone have any experience building pasture shelters? I'm looking to build one for a mule in very hot, humid FL. Can anyone send me some how-to links, or links to pre-built shelters?
Since you are in Florida you might want to look into making one out of steel or aluminum. How much are you thinking of spending? I have seen some made out of just those aluminum carport things. I think last time I saw one they were around $6-900 installed.
No termites to worry about with aluminum.
Would that protect him from rain? There's a lot of rain here...
In today's economy, who can spend a lot of money on ANYTHING?? I'm trying to avoid anything pricy... LOL
Have you thought about the pre-built one?
Look at that one: they have built run-ins as well as kits (I think with instructions)
When I was looking for the run-in I found those are cheaper than building one on property (although if you build yourself it certainly will save TONS of money).
Thanks! I think I'm looking to do it myself (soo much cheaper). I just haven't been able to find the right way to do it...
4 poles in the ground some 2x4's for the roof boards or tin, there you have it. It sounds so easy doesn't it  I have thought of building one for ages so I don't have to move my girls from the pasture when it storms. It always seems easy in my little brain
its called a pavilion.... lol
Ha-ha, Vida! It usually more tough than it looks like. :) We were thinking about building one ourself, but after accurate considerations on my side I got the Amish one (well, I have a good discount though - one stall for free).
Anywho The chicken coop is made from 4 cedar posts and some 2x4's and some cheap steel siding. it only had 3 sides my daughters and I remodelded it for the chickens so the carpentry isn't the best (Hubby was a carpenter for 14 years and didn't want the chickens...it was a test it think. We passed and finished it out for the chickens.)
Here's a picture of it...I'm proud. :D
Very cute coop!
