would it upset YOU?
if you were paying to keep your horses somewhere out on pasture.. at someones home. and paid them to prety much watch the horses and water them( grass enough in pasture no feeding) and you went to check on your horses and they had no water and one had cuts from being stuck in the fence?
Do you expect them to watch over them 24/7/365? Yes, that's unreasonable.
Horses, even under strict supervision, are suicidal. If they get caught up in the fence that's on the horse, not the property owner. Sure, if they noticed it they should have said something. If they weren't home when it happened and you were the first out there to see the injuries, then you as the owner need to clean them up.
As far as the water situation, what did you do to correct it? Stand around and get mad, or fill up the troughs?
If the care isn't what you want or expect, then move. That's really your only option.
I had this happen to me when I bought my first horse. He was kept at a boarding faculity that had the owner living on the property, and he was constantly neglected - along with all the other horses.
In the middle of the summer, water troughs would be empty in paddocks with up to 6 horses in them. In the winter, or cold rain, none of the horses with have blankets on, or hay to eat.
Luckily for me, I pulled my horse, and not too soon after she was shut down! :)
no haha but I'm sure it doesn't take that long to go fill up the water. And ya I understand, horses are going to get stuck in the fence, but if we are paying them, shouldn't they make sure the fence is up and 'safe' for the horses?
I dont think i should be responsible for fixing the fence, but i 'have' to if i want my horses to not walk and get stuck over it.. IMO i think the person we are paying should be the one buying stuff to fix the fence, not me, i mean if my horses were the ones to break it OF COURSE i would replace it but it wasn't from my horses..
Of course i filled the troughs!! and they are always home.. and as you probably know i CANT move my horses.. im 15 and I have stressed to my parents that the fence wasn't the best and that she wouldnt fix it. My dad says that oh well big deal, they will only do it once... we aren't paying for hay blah blah.. and then when i talk to the property owner... oh they will walk over it... there not going to get stuck.. and then told me my horse walked into the fence the other day and how funny it was.... i hate this..
I even told my dad I would PAY HIM to keep my horse on my OWN property.. and he said no...
We fixed fence twice on Saturday. A gelding was determined to get through to a mare in heat. Ending up locking him in the top paddock and deprived him of pasture time. Horse has been here a year and never tried this before. You just never know.
Depends on the written and signed contract. Sometimes the contract is to pay to use the land, period. Other contracts include some level of care.
So - if the written and signed contract was for the person to do some care, then yes I'd be upset. However if the contract was only to lease the land to put the horses on, I'd have nobody to kick but myself.

because she had horses there before and we watched them go through it.. and that lady never fixed it, and she moved to a different state. and the property owner says that since it wasn't her own personal horse she isn't fixing it...
It's pretty obvious you think these people don't keep horses up to your standards. If your parents aren't willing or able to move them, then you're SOL until you're old enough to move them yourself.
Until then you're just going to have to deal with the situation, and quit posting useless polls about how angry you think you have the right to be.
I have a feeling you're over dramatizing a lot of this, anyway. You just want people to be OUTRAGED for you, and trash these neighbors. :?
