It's worse than I thought

Yesterday I got my husband to video me riding, as I haven't had a lesson in over six years nor had any videos taken since I was showing, and that was in 2002.

From what I could feel, the horse has been going pretty well and has felt nice and balanced and engaged. The video evidence I now have indicates otherwise. It was pants. Dammit. My feel and reality do not seem to be the same thing, not to mention that my eq is fairly atrocious.

I don't think it's the best I've ridden, as I rushed her through the warmup as husband was standing around looking a bit bored and I was feeling guilty for roping him into this, and I was a bit stiff as we had gone to the barn straight after rock climbing at a local crag. Still, disappointed.

Not looking for advice, really, just moaning. Hubby isn't horsey so he doesn't quite understand, and I don't have any barn friends these days with whom I can kvetch.

Be nice to yourself. There's always ways to improve.. doesn't mean you suck. Horses begin to misbehave when their riders suck.. so I doubt you do missy! Maybe not olympian level but not too bad either.

I loathe that feeling where non horsey people begin to slip into boredom. Breaks my heart they cannot experience the joy and entrancement that we do.

That or I have a very patient horse!

Hubby's not bad for a non-horseperson. He likes grooming her and playing with her on the ground. He just gets bored watching me ride.

Noo haha!

That's good.. my mom refuses to help groom or watch much. Just no interest.

You should post the video!

Don't know if I fancy humiliating myself on a public forum.

I tel that myself whenever I see some pictures of me riding...

I promise we'll be nice!
I think everyone understands that feeling. Its hard when you ride on your own, and thats why getting lessons as regularly as possible is really important, it just straightens you out and points you back in the right direction.
Sometimes I'll be riding and think it feels really good, then look back at the video and feel mortified! Usually run to my coach at those points screaming HELP ME I SUCK!!!!!

It's really quite a humiliating video. Doesn't make me look like I know what I'm doing at all. I have been doing dressage for over fifteen years, taken thousands of lessons (just not in the last six years), I should be better at it than I am.

Oh god, I thought I was the only one. I haven't taken lessons in years, I felt balanced and perfect, my horses act fine, but looking at pictures and videos, OH GOD!!! >_<;

I love when someone videos me & I see how bad I look, but I also see where I want I need to work on. My instructor will take vids of me at shows, I am hoping the next show's vid will be better than the last one. I will post that one, if you post yours? Deal:wink::?:
