Lessons at one barn, leasing at another?

Hi! I'm Stephanie, I am fairly new to the horse world (I've been riding English as of September 2011) and I am OBSESSED! I love it and I am at my happiest in the saddle. I finally found a barn that has reasonable lesson rate so that I can ride two times a week. Here's my dilemma: I want to lease a horse to increase my saddle time however, the leasing option at my current barn is more than what I can afford. I have found another barn that is considerably less expensive to lease (3 rides a week including a lesson).

I'll still ride once a week at the barn I am currently at and replace the second lesson with the lease at the other barn.

Is this acceptable? I feel guilty, but I spoke to my current instructor about it and she can't work on the price of the lease which I understand and respect but I also want to spend more time riding. I would take more lessons at her barn but she is only available Sat mornings and during the week up until 5pm but I work until 6pm except for Wednesdays, so I am already riding my maximum there which is only 2 lessons.

Help?

If you can't afford your current barn's lease price, then I say go ahead with leasing at the other barn. However, you may want to talk with your instructor first to see how she'll handle it.

As long as it's not a problem with either barn, then go for it.

Do people tend to ride at more than one barn? I feel like it would get confusing as far as lesson progression or is that usually not the case? I just want to see other people's experiences before I commit to something like leasing at another barn..

Learn from as many people as you can, whenever you can. Do not feel guilty. You are still giving your business to the first barn. There is nothing that says you have to ONLY ride at one barn.

I would probably ride one lesson less at my current barn and put that money towards the lease. I'd still ride Wednesdays at the current barn and use the lease for after work during the week and for the weekend as the second barn has later hours and is open all weekend.

My lesson for this Wednesday was cancelled and the second barn suggested I come in for a lesson and we can go from there for leasing options. I'll keep everyone updated though!
