Small hole hay net for round bale
Okay...I saw somewhere a small hole hay net for round bales. I'm not concerned with waste since I have a hay ring, but thought they could still get the benefits (taking longer to eat..smaller bites, like actual foraging) from the small hole net. My question is, how well would this net hold up? It just seems like it could get torn to heck? Does anyone have one that could share pros/cons? Or is it just a wast of money?
Cinch net is what you are looking for. Be sure to use your ring as well to keep them from pawing at the net. You might have to tighten it periodically. The benefits are better digestion as the slower in, the slower out.
That's what I want but how does it stand up? Is it pretty strong?
I didn't buy a pre-made net made for roundbales yet, but I did make my own. My animals gobbled the hay down too fast and I was looking for a way to slow them down and not waste hay.
But I wasn't sure it would really work so I checked around on slow feeder sites for ideas and looked at the price of different types of materials/nettings. I ended up making somethang that has turned out to work pretty good and the animals are really happy that they can munch when they want. After learning on smaller slow feeder hay nets they are quite good at "grazing" on it, and so far it has nearly doubled the amount of time a round bale lasts.
The pics and a descrition are on this thread-
All in all, it cost me about $30 and I was willing to try that approach fist to see if it would work before spending quite a bit on a pre-made one.
Thanks lockwood!! I may try to do this first to save some money. Thanks for the input!
