Anyone ever have a bad hauler experience? I never did until last week. Hauler shows up to pick up pony that I sold. He had an attitude when he got here and complaining about everything. Told me that I had to send hay with him as it was on his contract. The contract said to send one or two bales, I sent one very good bale of bermuda, some of the best hay I have bought in a while. Its just one little pony so one bale will take care of her as far as I was concerned. I told him to keep in contact with me, but did not hear anything until after he dropped pony off. He called me ranting and raving about the new owners, calling them idiots and saying they didn't know anything about horses and how he had to go out of his way to drop her off, he just went on and on. I was thinking, oh no, my pony got a bad home, but I waited until the new owners contacted me.
They contacted me and said he talked bad about me and told them I sold them an unbroke, wild pony. She was halter broke, lead, load and tie and that is how she was sold. He told them I falsely advertised her as a broke horse. How the hell would he know how she was advertised? He charged them more for hay and said that I did not send enough. He unloaded the pony and took a whip to her in front of the horrified new owners! He then left in a hurry without giving them the papers.
I called him and asked where the papers were, you don't just misplace a 10 X 13 envelope. First story..He gave them to the man, the man says NO he did not give them to me. Second story..he gave them to the man and the mans wife put them in her purse..wife says she has a tiny purse, no way an envelope that size will fit in it. Third story..he left them in their garage. He was never in their garage.
I asked about him charging them for more hay, he said my hay was moldy. Are you kidding me, that was beautiful hay and not one bale in the whole load was moldy. I asked him about whipping the pony, he says he whipped the ground behind it, yeah right. We had a heated conversation on the phone and you can not argue with ignorance or a liar. A couple days go by, still no papers. I tell them that I will apply for new ones as I figure the guy was mad and left and still had them.
They get a call, the papers are found by someone in the road, the guy threw them out the window as he was driving down the road. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???? Thank Goodness the papers were found, it was her original papers and coggins! I had written all the information on the outside of the envelope. I do not know what this guys problem was, but he does not need to handle any kind of animal and he was fired. I do not know yet if the new owners were reimbursed for all the BS they had to endure. It is still unbelievable to me that this actually happened.
This almost deserves name dropping. A person like this does not deserve business.

It never ceases to amaze me at how awful people can act when they are doing a job that they were hired on to do. I have never had to use a hauler, but I know plenty of people that have used them and I have never heard a story as bad as this one. The ones I hear most about are halters that seem to get "lost". You say he was fired, so I assume you reported him. He definitely needed to be reported!
Was this person a professional hauler, working for a professional hauler or a private hauler?
If professional or working for a professional you can report him to his company and/or the BBB.
