Olympic Dreams...

Hi guys!
I'm an olympic wannabe in Eventing. How can I make my dream come true? I'm 14, been riding for 5 years, jumping 3ft but jumped 3'6 in a lesson a few weeks ago. I don't own a horse, but I have a job training horses. I ride the greenies about 2-3 times a week. I'm in Pony Club, but i'm unrated as I just joined. I will be doing my D1 rating very soon also. I'm taking lessons from Peter Rayne, he gratuated Pony Club and teaches eventing lessons for pony clubbers. Hopefully I will be starting very soon. How could I get to the olympics?

Hard, hard, hard, hard, hard, work. Did I say hard? You will either need tons of money, or have a rich sponser (s). And a suuper nice horse. But, right now, you need to start doing eventing! Since you havent done it yet you dont know if you will like it!

Yes! I will be leasing a horse for pony club! I have done a mini event and I liked it. I did Novice level jumps also.

The main problem you will encounter is money. Eventing at high levels is not cheap and it also requires you to be an exceptional rider on an exceptional horse. It's not impossible though, just work hard and keep in mind that luck is also a factor.

Also, when you win you don't win a lot of money like you can in the hunter/jumpers or dressage.

It's a tough world. I suggest trying to find an upper level rider/coach in your area and see if they accept working students. You'll learn a ton and it's definitely worth all the hard work. Plus, they'll like have some good contacts to put you through to when you're ready to find full-time working student positions and/or groom/rider positions.

I am taking lessons with Peter now. Wednesday will be my next lesson. :)

You actually can win quite a bit of money in upper level eventing competitions, not saying that that will cancel out needing money. I would suggest becoming a working student for an olympic eventer to get you on your way.

I would, but we have no olympic riders in WI that are close to us...

I'm now a D2, but i'm taking my D3 in a week. I also jumped 4'3! At the moment i'm taking lessons from a fourth level dressage trainer. So in the winter, fall, and early spring I will be taking lessons from her (she also does jumping) and the rest of the year it will be from Peter. :)
