Applying for your USDF medals

So let's say that you went to a horse show today and got the last score you needed for your bronze medal. When you go home tonight, can you go straight onto USDF's website and submit your application? Or do you have to wait the several weeks it takes USDF to have the scores recorded online to submit the application?

Congratulations! Though I am not 100% sure, I would contact the USDF about it. They can be the most helpful - and you don't want to waste unnecessary time/money!

That was hypothetical. ;)
Reason I'm asking is that I'm working on my silver medal, and I hope to get the last of the scores at a show the weekend of Sept. 29-30. And USDF says all applications have to be received by Sept 30 to count for that year. So you can see the problem...

Can you email them the app and results? That's what I'd do. You can also contact them and just tell what the problem is. I'm sure you are not alone, so gotta be some rules on how they handle that.

Good luck!

Forgive me for mayhaps hijacking your thread...but what is this medal you speak of?

USDF (United States Dressage Federation) has a rider award program for dressage riders to have attainable goals and be recognized for their work. The most commonly lusted after are the bronze, silver, and gold medals. The bronze is two scores above 60, from two different judges, at First Level, Second Level, and Third Level. The silver medal is the same for Fourth Level and Prix St. Georges, and the gold is for Intermediare and Grand Prix. Most professionals are silver or gold medalists, and many amateurs work towards their bronze medal.
You can learn about all of USDF's rider awards here:

Congrats to you!

I would think that since the scores would be on the same day as the due date you should technically be alright if you have it post marked for that day (at least that is usually the case with deadlines) Otherwise, maybe ask them if they will consider the scores retroactively? This has to have come up before.

The problem is that you are now only allowed to apply online. You don't have to send in copies of the score sheets, they just check the scores in their online database. But if the database isn't updated until weeks after the show...

Not that it would kill me to wait for next year. I'd still be able to get the lapel pin right after I am approved, and that's what I really want. But my name wouldn't go in the yearbook until early 2014 when the 2013 yearbook comes out.

So despite how very long ago I started this thread I thought I'd better post the answer since I've found it out. You can submit the application as soon as you get the scores, and it will be processed once the scores are up and USDF gets around to it. That's what I know. So I think if you got your last score on September 30 you could submit it that night and probably still get it counted for that year.

In the end I didn't take that horse to that show anyway so it didn't matter. My Silver is still incomplete. But next year! I did manage to finish all the scores for my Bronze though.
