Qualifications to teach in Aus??
Do you need to have coaching qualifications to teach beginners lessons? Im most worried about insurance issues, but of couse I would have a liability release.
Can anyone give me some advise about starting a small teaching business??
Teaching horseriding lessons I assume?
If your talking about riding instructor then I'm not sure about legally but I think it would be a good idea if you did have some qualifications. People who come to you are more likly to hire you that way. You could take some short (few month) courses on the subject. I think some TAFE do them. And I think you can also do an apprenticeship or traineeship with other qualified instructors if you can find one who's willing.
But if you are just wanting to teach a few friends or something and you have plenty of experience then i don't see why you can't but if you are looking to do it professionally then I would recommend getting some qualifications.
I don't have any qualifications and I teach a few teenagers to ride. But they are well aware and i just have their parents sign a liability waiver for me. I would love to get qualifications but it can be a little pricey. If I was going to teach as a business then yeah I would definitely go and do a course but it is more of a hobby for me with a little cash incentive :)
you can register with the EFA as an intro coach which qualifies you to teach. you can do your coaching independently as in you dont need to be working at a riding school or something.
if you want more detailed info just pm me. i went through all this recently when i registered as intro coach for my job. i have left that job now unfortunately but i am still working my way through by myself
Yeah like Jaimie, it would only be a few local people I already know, most of them have riden the horse before, but what concerns me is when you take money, things can become more complicated.
Well I am not running it as a profitable business either so I don't declare the money
But if you are going to be running it as a business it might be different, especially the amount you would charge if you were qualified.
i also did private lessons here and there before i started working towards my level 1. i guess if its just here and there its not so bad
