Pasture boarding suggestions in Southwest DC area
Hi everyone,

I'm moving out to the DC area in the summer and I'm looking for good pasture boarding for my mustang, Cascade. She loves to be outside, and she would be absolutely miserable if she was fussed over in a stall all day. She's used to being outside.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good boarding in the Alexandria/Fairfax region in DC?

Any potential barn buddies I can make before hand?

There's a link at the top that says buying and selling, that takes you to their classifieds section which includes boarding adverts.

Hi! I live in Southeast DC - when you get to town you should get in touch; I'd love to show you the area! I have a good friend in Amissville,Va who is a vet and has pasture board for $240 per month. It's about an hour and a half drive from downtown DC. Actually, I'm hoping to be able to buy or adopt something soon and will probably board with her myself. If you'd ever want to see the property I'd be happy to take you there sometime :)

It's good to meet you. I'm not sure where we will be settling down. My husband has to work in CC, and we don't want a commute that kills him, so we're looking for places that are well connected by mass transit to that area.

On the other side of that coin, I want to be close enough to my horse that I can go out and work with her while the kids are in school, so my "horse commute" needs to be reasonable as well.

I guess we'll see where we end up. I hate that it is all up in the air.

You might want to do some online research for boarding in Haymarket, Va. It's close to Fairfax and about 35 minutes from DC when traffic is clear. If you want to messagw or call me when you guys get a better idea of things I'd be more than happy to throw some suggestions out there :) Steph

I board near South Riding, VA. I think we might have a couple pasture slots open - if you're interested let me know and I can ask.

We have a sand arena, small grass arena, and large grass arena, plus access to trails. Field board is still full service - grain twice/day, fly masks put on/off, blankets put on/off, additional supplements fed if you provide them.

I live in Fairfax (walking distance to the Vienna metro stop), and it takes me 23 minutes to get there early weekend mornings, or 30-45 minutes during "moderate" traffic. (This is the DC region, so heavy rush hour traffic takes over 2 hours to drive there.)

Let me know if you want to know more.

You can also browse the classifieds on Virginia
They are a good resource for finding horse-related things around here.

Thanks! Depending on when the Silver line of the Metro gets up and running, Reston might be a possibility for us. If that's the case, we'd be pretty close to there. For some reason my hubby has it in his head that we have to live in a closet as close as we can get to downtown in order for him to have a reasonable commute.

I don't think that's the case so long as we can be close enough that he can get to the Metro. Once in the system, it shouldn't take too long or be too difficult to get where he needs to go in CC. I know he'd like to be on the blue or yellow lines, but the silver line will tie into them, and he'd only have one train change.

I don't know. All I know is that if my "commute" out to my horse is too long, I'll only be able to see her on the weekends, because I won't be able to get to her and back before the kids are out of school.

And that would be useless. She'd become a lawn ornament, and I don't want that for her.

If all goes well, we may have a potential place to live next summer in Kingstowne near Franconia, and southwest of Alexandria.

Is there anyone from that Southern DC area?
