Hi, I'm Priscilla from Langley, BC.. and this is Taz :)
I'm Priscilla and this is Taz. We're from Langley BC.
I came across this forum because Taz is my first horse and I have had questions (like: now that I have a horse, what do I do???) and Google is constantly directing me here for answers so I decided to join!
I don't specialize in any particular riding, I'm just a beginner-intermediate pleasure western trail rider. :)
Its been my dream since I first got on a horse when I was about 6 years old to one day have a BIG yard and horses. We finally got a bigger place (5 acres lol) and I started horse looking about 1.5 years ago, but then I got pregnant and it put my dream on hold again.
The baby was born in November 2011 and we named him Samuel. My older 2 kids are Caleb (10) & Emily (7)...
Anyways, I started looking for a horse again and met a few but none stood out me until I met Taz at a local rescue organization. He is a 12 y/o TB gelding. He is pushy, but not overbearing. He is green broke, but hasn't been under saddle in about 10 years - during those 10 years he has been in and out of homes, neglected.
He was at the shelter for about 2 weeks. He is skinny, but luckily his teeth and feet are good! I have him in a small pasture of green grass with a round bale of hay and currently he's getting 2kg of high-cal grain. Just over the last week I've noticed that you can still see his ribs, but they're not as noticeable as they were.
I decided to take him home because I don't know much about horses and I need one easy to learn on, and he doesn't know how much about people and the love he's been missing out on his entire life.
Right now, we're taking it slow, getting to know each other. My main priority is to get him to put on weight. But we are also working on simple ground manners. He is getting used to being brushed, he picks up his feet (my heart doesn't pound as hard doing his back feet now as it did a few weeks ago lol), he backs up, I have him turning his butt away from me (yay!), and he is learning to take my lead when he's on a lead (he's stopped nosing me lol and he's finally stopping when I stop.. turning has never been an issue).... oh and he brings his head down to my eye level too :)
So that is our story in a nutshell. I look forward to meeting you all!
Welcome to the forum!! Do you have any pics of Taz to share with us?
They are under my "horses" tab.. I don't know how to add to a message...
