Fly Sprays
Just curious what fly sprays you have used please share :)
The first year i was into horses i used Bronco which i hated then i moved too Endure which was okay, the third i used was pyranha, the fourth Centaura horse and rider and
*now im using Absorbine Dura Guard the smells like Citrus Fruit it has the best smell too it and it does pretty good on my horses i probably wont ever change again i love it!

My two favorites are Ultra Shield Ex and Endure. But I have had luck with Repel-X and Bug Block.

I also had terrible luck with Bronco. It seemed like I might as well be spraying my horses with water.

Has anyone ever heard of using a garlic mash for fly repellent?

A lady at my barn was using it on her horse, and it stunk to the high heavens. But if it's effective, I'm willing to endure the stink :p

right now im using mosquito halt. i like it so far. it seems to work well. i pretty much gave up on homemade recipes haha. i prefer to go out and buy fly repellent concentrate. we also use a barn fly system on an automatic timer. i would probably go nuts without it.

I like Absorbine Ultra Shield Ex. I looked a lot on (since a lot of their products have been rated by consumers) and I saw that Bronco got a very low rating, so I steered clear of it, but Bronco Gold got good reviews so I picked up a bottle. Personally I didn't like it. It really seemed to attract dirt on my pale horse, and didn't provide any extra protection. So I'm back to Ultra Shield.

Another forumite recommended feeding a garlic supplement to horses and dogs to repel flies - I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to give it a whirl next summer. (This is the one I was referred to - Springtime Inc. Bug Off)

I used Ultra Shield earlier in the summer, which worked pretty well, and switched to Bronco a few weeks ago because it was on sale at our local tack store. Both seem to keep the flies away, but then again, flies haven't been nearly as bad this year as they have in the past.

Something that worked well last summer when the flies were awful was that marigold spray.

I've fed garlic to my dogs for two seasons now with GREAT results. No fleas/ticks and the flying insects seem to leave the alone, as well. They have no discernible smell to me, except right after they eat the garlic.

I think next season I'll try it on my horses. I get garlic from Springtime, Inc. for my dogs and probably will get garlic for my horses from the same source.

I've used Tri-Tec 14 for years and have loved it. Recently though, I've been buying 10% permethrin and mixing my own. Saves money since I only pay $14 and can mix it slightly stronger as needed. I also feed ACV, which cuts down on the flies.

I only use pyrahna. You can also try equispot, feed supplements, fly sheet and masks :)
