Friesian or Friesian-Crosses Anyone?
(I'm sure this has talked about before, but I didn't see anything recent. So I'll start a new thread!)
I liked Friesians before. Who doesn't like a romantic picture of a fairy-tale like black horse with mounds of wavy hair?
But now that I've met a few and rode one, I think I'm in love. Smitten.
My English lesson horse, a 15.3 Friesian mare who've I've had only 6 lessons on, is to blame. Total sweet heart. I have a lot to work on in my lessons on her but she is still a pleasure to ride.
My instructor also has a gorgeous Friesian stallion and I've met another one in the area. Both drop dead gorgeous.
But that mare is any testament to how the breed is in general or how they influence crosses, my pocket book might be in huge trouble sometime in the future when I look for my own horse if I fall anymore in love. And for the sake of money I hope it's just a phase.
I'll have to get a photo of her and post it here. But for now, does anyone have or know a Friesian, Friesian-cross, or Friesian sport horse? Tell me about them! What do you think about the breed? Post photos! :D
Here's a post about some Friesian crosses, and I posted some pictures here of Dragon, my Friesian/Saddlebred cross. I like him so much better than the purebreds!
And here's a post where I've talked some about all the things I have done with him, he's a very versatile boy.
I am just terribly crazy over him, he is everything I ever wanted in a horse.
Oops! Sorry, wrong link for the second thread, here's the right one.
I had a Friesian cross for 3 Weeks.
he had been gelded a week before I brought him home
I don't know if they gelded him themselves or if their vet is very crappy.
The incision area was horrible. I spent the whole time walking him, water therapy.
He seemed to.be getting better. Swelling goes down and he seems happier, then one day I went to feed and he was standing at his bucket. very drawn up. Stiff as heck in the back legs, 3rd eyelid kept spazzin out. He ate and drank. By the time the vet got there he was getting stiff up his neck and horrible
He had tetanus and had to be put down.
Thanks Silent One! Yeah I saw that Leopard Appy Friesian... drop dead gorgeous. And your Dragon is handsome and sounds like a doll!
Janna, I'm so sorry to hear that. Sounds like a bad vetting job and a nightmare. :(
Home - New Start Farm Here's a link to my only experience with Friesians. They are absolutely fantastic, gorgeous horses. I've seen Wessel at shows and he is a perfectly behaved gentleman....of course, his owner does NOT let him get away with being anything except behaved. I want so bad to have one of his babies.....LOL Like you tho, I keep looking at the price.
