Update On Baby Rabbit!
Well, my mother won't drive me to the vet to have the baby euthinized. :/ I wish she would though, and at the same time I hope she doesn't.
See, I know the baby is quite injured, and the maggots don't help, but they baby is also doing better then before. He has started moving some.
I was on a site run by a lady who has rescued injured and orphaned baby Rabbits, and was doing some things she said on her site.
He hasn't been eating or drinking yet, so I've been giving him a mix of sugar/salt/warmwater to keep him hydrated. I also pulled one of the Maggots out because really, those things are quite large already for being in such a little baby. I have only seen 3, so now there are 2, but I can't get the others quick enough.
I was told he doesn't need formula, but with him not eating do you think he would? Some people said he does some said he doesn't. I always have a problem with mixed opinions.
He does seem a little more alert also. He took his mix well, but I really am getting sickened by those Maggots. I one, feel bad, and two, they just disgust me.
I used kitten formula for my orphaned guinea pigs. Just check the ingredients, get the stuff with no meat products in it. I sucked some up in a little plastic syringe, put it in a glass of warm water to warm it a little then in the side of the cheek, very slowly, dripped it in. Make sure the rabbit is swallowing it so you don't drown it!
As for the maggots, drown them out. I had this problem with my guinea pig a while ago on a open cyst. I used an antiseptic spray to drown them, when they came up for air I used plastic tweezers to pick them out. Gross but it worked!
Best of luck!
I found a good formual (That I know of) from a site.
Powedered Formula- KMR Hartz Kitten Formula
(Opt.) Heavy Cream
Liquid Vitamins- Visorbin, Eqaute, etc.
I don't know much, but I think this would be an okay mixture.
I will have to flush them ickys out.
Glad you found formula!
Poor bunny, I hope he does ok :)
That bunny is super lucky you found him... I hope he does well for you
The name piggieswiggies is from another forum, but what I wrote could be said here also.
Update- He is doing great! He is walking some, and moving his head. We made him some pellet mush, and he ate it good! I got 2 of the 3 Maggots out! He also took his liquid mixture good, and we plan to get some formula today. He also went potty! Feces and Urine!
I've cleaned the wounds out pretty well also, and hope to get that last bug out. We may drown him out though since he is quick.
We do have anti-biotics yes, and no he hasn't had any grass, but like I said above he did have some Pellet Mush which is a start. There were some very small, but chewable chunks which he got down fine.
I don't think he is too scared piggiewiggies. I actually had set him on the blanket while I grabbed some pellet mush, and he walked over to be. Well, more like a baby crawl. I don't know the chances of going to the wild. He is getting somewhat used to me, which is a bad thing, but I needed to handle him to help him. If he does make it we may need to get a permit, and let him reside with us, but I would love to see if we could let him be wild. I will have to see how comfortable he is near us, but I am trying to not do much with him besides feed him, clean his wounds, and those needed things.
Also I named him Nello from The Dog Of Flanders.
Got the last Maggot out!
Malorey, Sounds like you are doing a very good job of taking care of this poor little fellow. Congrats on the maggot snatching... :P That's both hard and gross.....You are a doll...and that's one lucky bunny!
Sounds like he is doing better! Give him a cuddle from me :D
