Here pretty soon I will have to get a job and start saving money.
I'm keeping only 2 of my horses until I can get life straight.
I've decided to find a home for my old mare (free!!) And to even (free) lease my very first horse out. I only have so much time left to do this. I won't have the money.
But finding someone that I can trust with my gelding is not easy. There's no many...erm... Not so horse smart people around here.
I don't know what to do, what if I don't find someone in time?
this horse means a lot to me and when I get back on my feet id like to have him.
Anyone know of any other options? I don't want to give him away, and lose all rights to see him again.
if youre looking to save/earn money, and you dont have the time for your horse i wouldnt be "free" leasing him. i would look to find a paying leasee.
is there NO horse community around you? no shows/rodeo/ whatever that you could go to or friends that want a horse to ride??
also dont know about where youre at...but theres things like church camps/summer camps around here that you can rent a horse out to. they basically lease the hrose for X many months and use them for summer programs/trail rides etc.
dont know if you have that available or if you would be comfortable with it.
but definitely depending on his training go to a show or rodeo or something and ask around about somebody looking to lease a horse.
Well I'm not trying to make money off him. Just be at a home that he's well cared for until I'm set.
I don't know about the horse community here. People I know here are not horse people. Either that or... They have them and have no idea what they're doing.
Look into clubs, like Pony Club, Adult Riding Club, Trail Riding clubs, breed societies and talk with them to expand your network.
And there is always a chance that a horsey person new to your area misses riding and wants a lease!
even if your not looking to make money off him....its better than giving him away because then ur losing him, and ur still stuck financially.
yeah. look into any kind of riding club etc. even somebody maybe looking for a 4H horse that wants to lease.
then ur killing 2 birds with one stone....hell have a good home that will take care of him, hell still be yours down the line when your set, and youll be making money to save towards having a safe future with him.
A free lease does sound like the ideal option, but it can be hard to find a good leasee on a short time line.
When you do find someone, make sure the contract is well written and includes all care details and expectations. Put in there that you will do de-worming every 8 weeks (even if you don't normally) as this will give you a chance to see your horse regularly to make sure he's doing well.
Not sure what your current boarding situation is, but maybe as a backup plan you can find a field to rent that is close enough to where you live that you could do self-care for a while?
Wow I posted this and got a call.
Someone Coming to check him out Sunday. And discuss things.
Hopefully this works out.
..... And the lady almost wouldn't believe my age lol.
Guess I sound like a kid on the phone.
Good luck. keep us updated and hopefully thigs work out well!
just remember....get it ALL in writing...have a detailed very clear contract to work out so both sides are getting what they want/need and nobody gets screwed over
Thanks for the help! I've already started writing some things down
Ugh. I want out of this house.
I'm about ready to just send him to an auction.
Can't do much when all $ is going to horses.
